IVF with embryo donation

IVF with donor embryos is a form of assisted reproduction that uses embryos created by combining the donor’s eggs with the donor’s sperm. It is a valuable option for couples for whom fertilisation with their own reproductive cells is failing or not possible. If you are an expat living in the Czech Republic, you work here and you have valid health insurance, you are entitled to partially covered treatment. We cooperate with all Czech public health insurance companies.

The clinic that understands your needs

How does the treatment work?

An IVF cycle with donated embryos will be recommended by your doctor based on your medical history and test results. We will use embryos created from donor cells and transfer them into the uterus after hormonal preparation of the uterine lining.

Prepatory phase

Before

Initial (online) consultation

During the initial online consultation, the doctor will discuss your complete medical history in detail, consult the results with you and agree on the next course of action. The doctor will also explain the legislation related to donation and how the whole process works.

The dedicated doctor will then guide you through your entire treatment. Your personal coordinator will also be available to you throughout this time, both to answer any questions and to discuss any concerns you may have during this challenging period.

Initiation of treatment

Day 0

Initiation of treatment

In the case of fresh embryo transfer, we will synchronise your menstrual cycle with the donor’s. To do this, we use hormone therapy to prepare your uterine lining to allow the embryo to nest at the right time, while we check its readiness using ultrasound. Your gynaecologist in your home country can also carry out this check.

Fertilisation of eggs

Day 12 – 15

Fertilisation of eggs

On the set date, we will collect eggs from the donor and fertilise the best quality ones with sperm from the selected donor. Our embryologists cultivate them in laboratory conditions for up to 5 days.

If we have agreed in advance to transfer frozen embryos from donated reproductive cells, we will thaw these embryos and prepare them for transfer when your uterine lining is optimally prepared.

Embryo transfer

cca Day 17 – 20

Embryo transfer

Before the embryo transfer, one of our embryologists will inform you about the cultivation process and embryo development. Embryotransfer is a painless outpatient procedure similar to a gynaecological examination, during which the doctor transfers a selected embryo of the highest quality into your uterus under ultrasound control.

We freeze the remaining high-quality embryos using the vitrification method and preserve them for future use — all embryos created in this process belong to the couple being treated.

After embryo transfer

Resting regime

After the egg transfer, follow the recommended resting regime — avoid more demanding physical activities, sexual intercourse and staying in hot environments, such as baths or saunas.

Pregnancy test

You can take a pregnancy test 14 days after the transfer. Whatever the result, contact us. In case of a positive test, you and your doctor will arrange an appointment for an ultrasound check-up.

If the urine test comes out negative, the doctor will recommend a blood test to confirm the result. If this is also negative, you will arrange to stop the medication and also have another consultation where you and your doctor will plan the next course of action.

We run our own donor programme

At PFC Clinic, we have our own donor programme with a large database of anonymous, vetted donors. Egg donation in the Czech Republic is strictly anonymous. Couples can only find out basic information about the donor regarding biological characteristics.

As this is a very sensitive issue, we carefully select the donor for the couple based on basic physical features, blood type and possibly other specific preferences of the couple. We have many years of experience in selecting egg donors and have matched them to help thousands of couples.

Who are our donors

  • Young women (typically aged between 21 – 33 years)
  • The women are physically healthy
  • The women are mentally healthy
  • The women have a body mass index (BMI) below 30

    Who are our sperm dorors

  • Young men aged up to 40
  • All donors hold at least a secondary education
  • All donors have an above-standard spermogram result
  • All donors undergo rigorous genetic testing
  • All men undergo testing for sexually transmitted diseases

What is the success rate of treatment?

We can help up to 90% of couples

Thanks to our individual approach and the combination of assisted reproduction methods, we can help up to 90% of couples within 4 cycles. However, patience, openness and mutual trust are needed. The success rate of a single cycle decreases with age, but can be increased, for example, with preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) of embryos. The graph shows our average success rate of pregnancy per cycle.
