Pregnancy after 40 is possible.

The reality of our current society has drastically changed compared to our parent’s generation. The truth is, that getting pregnant in your 40s is becoming common ground. We have enormous life opportunities that we want to explore, we want to create a safe environment for our future children, we want to make sure we are emotionally prepared for parenting.

Therefore more and more couples postpone the plans for completing their families until later in life. But is it possible to achieve pregnancy in your 40s? Yes, it is. Of course, it is harder, and the risks are more, but we are here to make your dream come true! If you are in your 40s and have been trying to conceive for 6 months without success, it’s recommended to get in touch with a fertility specialist.

Can women get pregnant in their 40s?

Short answer: yes.

It is very normal nowadays that a couple would like to achieve first success in their professional life, maybe give themselves the liberty to travel and see the world, before they decide to settle down and become parents. The possibilities we have now are way faster than what our parents and our grandparents had. So yes, the younger generation will take their time to have a family.

But that doesn’t mean it will be easier.

However, if it is not, the good news is that reproductive medicine has evolved tremendously and technology helps when nature fails.

Though many women over 40 have an easy time conceiving and experience uneventful pregnancies and births, the probability of infertility and health concerns shoot up. If you are over 40, it may be a good idea for you to get your ovarian function and hormone levels tested.

You could also do an ultrasound to see if there is a fallopian tube blockage. Your partner may also want to consider having a semen analysis. Your doctor would likely also recommend changes to lifestyle and diet to improve your chances of getting pregnant.

What are your steps if you are in your 40s and you wish to have a baby?

First, if you have already been trying naturally for a few months (maximum 6), you should get in contact with an IVF specialist. It is important to assess your health.
The general health of a woman and her ovarian function are the main factors that determine the ability to achieve pregnancy.
A sperm analysis is also important, so do get one to make sure there is no malefactor.
We can run these tests in our clinic and know right away what your chances to achieve pregnancy.

Your plan must take into consideration as well, a safety net. Many women trying to conceive are faced with the reality that they might no longer be able to conceive a baby with their own oocytes. Or the chances are really low.

This is a piece of very hard news to digest and it takes time to process and accept such reality.

In our center, we offer, for exactly this kind of situation, a specific program called: COMBI program. Where you as a woman will go thru the IVF stimulation. At the same time, we will plan a donor to stimulate at the same time as you. In this way, you will have an efficient strategy that is required when time is an issue.

If you would like to know more about your options or about our COMBI program, don’t hesitate to contact us!
